Belarus from India thousands years ago. It is a bearer of unique culture, part of wich has been kept in some regions of Belarus by our days, From Old Indian "Kriwi" means "spring", a sack of "water"... KRIWI is the most important newFolk / world music band from Belarus a still-unknown country with a fascinating musical tradition and a very small music scene peopled by just a few artists experimenting with their tradition. The music of the group is an electrifying contrast of old Belarussian traditions and modern sounds. Set arrangements and free improvisations supply a framework where hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe and other types of traditional instruments meet modern synthesiser technology. The group´s members developed their uniquestyle while investigating the boundaries of NewFolk and experimental music (+VJ+live b/w proJection). The turmoil of daily life in the real economic and political world leaves little breathing space, and only music creates some space for frEEExpression. The group also derived inspiration from their ethnographic exploration of Belarussian village traditions discovering songs that have preserved their melodies and texts untouched over centuries and in which love and death, fate, loyalty and black humour are closely entwined. The richly varied music created by the group brings the history and traditions of their region into the present day.
